Crocker Art Presents - Gleefully Askew: A Gladys Nilsson Retrospective
Born in Chicago in 1940, Gladys Nilsson is best known for her watercolors of long-limbed figures engaged in everyday micro-dramas
Born in Chicago in 1940, Gladys Nilsson is best known for her watercolors of long-limbed figures engaged in everyday micro-dramas. As a member of Chicago’s Hairy Who in the ’60s, Nilsson made watercolors that earned her a reputation as the most “feminine” member of the group. This landmark retrospective at the Crocker Art Museum—the first devoted to Nilsson’s work—celebrates more than six decades of her raucously off-beat paintings, which are at once mischievous, exacting, and profoundly observant.
Open 10 am to 5pm daily, with extended hours until 9pm on Thursdays. CLOSED Mondays and Tuesdays.
