SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Staying true to its mission to be the center for culture, creativity and vibrancy in Sacramento’s urban core, the Midtown Association is set to install and display 16 art pieces and sculptures in time for Midtown Second Saturday on Aug. 9.

With sizes that range from 6 inches to 20 inches, some art pieces need specialized and/or crane-like equipment (such as a gradall) to be put into place. Installation throughout the district will take place in early August, and the artwork will remain on display through Midtown Second Saturday on Sept. 13.

“Nearly a year in development and made possible by support from the office of Mayor Kevin McCarty, Supervisor Phil Serna, Sutter Health and Visit Sacramento, the all-new ‘Urban Dreams Art Experience’ is a truly ambitious and incredibly exciting project all at once,” said Executive Director of the Midtown Association Emily Baime Michaels.

“We expect that this art experience will be a real tourism draw for the city. Each piece is unique and stunning in its own way. The art ranges in size, scope, subject matter and artist intent, which makes the initiative so intriguing. We look forward to uplifting our local arts community thoughtfully and intentionally and highly encourage the community to immerse themselves in exploring every facet of the pieces that are part of the Urban Dreams Art Experience.”

After a call for artist submissions in early March of this year, more than 70 pieces of art were submitted by 36 artists for review and selection by an art selection committee consisting of artists, arts organizations, Visit Sacramento and Second Saturday sponsors. The final artwork selections were based on artistic merit, community engagement and interactive qualities.
