LAND PARK, CA (MPG) - With the weather getting warmer and the sun shining longer throughout these coming days, Land Park residents can feel that summer is already on its way.
With the official start of the season beginning June 20, there are several activities that community members can plan ahead for and have some summertime fun.
William Land Golf Course Summer Events
Starting on June 26, the William Land Golf Course will host its Music on the Green concert series that’s free for residents to attend. There will be complimentary small bites from Mulligan’s Café, and Urban Roots Craft Brewery will be on-site handing out free beer samples. There’s also a no-host bar with local craft beers and wine that will be available for purchase. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m.
Four Barrel, a high-energy rock cover band, will kick off the concert series on June 26. On July 24, the Hillary Jean Band will perform classic rock, and the band for Aug. 28 will be announced later.
Typically, this event attracts around 80 to 100 attendees, but William Land Golf Course General Manager Curt Davis said he expects a larger crowd this year as it is the first time that the event is free for the community to attend.
“This event is for the whole family, not just for the adults,” said Davis. “We invite people to come enjoy the live music at the golf course; bring a lawn chair and your friends.”
This is the fifth year that the golf course has put on this event series. It is a family-friendly summer activity where children are more than welcome to join and enjoy the fun. There will be a putting contest as well as free giveaways.
Also at William Land Golf Course at Mulligan’s Café is Friday Night Pints. Every Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. now through September there will be drink specials, free small bites and a free pint glass of beer with your first purchase. This is also a fun activity for the whole family, as there is a free golf putting contest available just for children: “Pints for the parents, putts for the kids!”
William Land Golf Course is located at 1701 Sutterville Road in Sacramento.
Show Love to Land Park
For residents looking to spend time this season outside by volunteering and giving back to the community, the Land Park Community Association encourages residents to show Land Park some love by bringing out friends and their gardening gear. Get some fresh air and exercise while contributing to the beautification of Land Park.
Volunteers can enjoy free coffee and pastries, as well as a hot lunch afterward.
Those who would like to participate are to meet at “base camp,” which is behind Fairytale Town at 3901 Land Park Drive, from 8 a.m. to noon on July 12 and Aug. 2.
California State Fair
A classic summer activity that everyone in Sacramento looks forward to every year is the annual California State Fair at Cal Expo, which will be from July 11 to July 27.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. From Fridays to Sundays, gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
Bring friends and family to indulge in carnival concessions such as kettle corn, fresh-squeezed lemonade, corn dogs, Dole-whip frozen dessert and more. Experience the thrill from riding the several roller coasters and daring attractions.
There will be live music every night, award-winning craft beer and wine, free horseback rides and engaging competitions that will have everyone in the family on their toes.
Regular admission for the state fair is $16 for adults, $10 for children 5 to 12; and $12 for seniors (ages 62 and above). Admission for children under 4 is free.
Tickets will be for sale at the fairgrounds, located at 1600 Exposition Blvd., and available for purchase online at calexpostatefair.com/admission-tickets.
State BBQ Competition at Cal Expo
There is nothing more that screams summer is here than fresh barbecue. On July 12, get ready for a good time by having a flavorful day of mouthwatering barbecue at the State Fair’s BBQ competition.
For $15, attendees can sample and score entries from five competing teams.
The official judging will be conducted by the Kansas City Barbecue Society at 3:30 p.m. at the Save Mart California’s Kitchen.
